BUILDINGFUTUREEXPERIENCES

Making cities and regions more vibrant through autonomous driving.

Newmo launched autonomous taxi pilot programs in 2025. With our roots as a taxi company, we are uniquely positioned to turn autonomous driving into a reality. Leveraging the operational expertise gained through daily service, we are committed to delivering safe and sustainable mobility to society.

Taxi Know-How, Reimagined for Next-Generation Safety

The experience gained through taxi operations—a core public transportation service—forms the operational expertise essential for future commercialization. By continuously validating with safety drivers, developing remote monitoring systems, and designing operations grounded in real-world deployment, we are building a robust foundation for safe societal adoption. Guided by our responsibilities as a transportation provider, we are committed to advancing autonomous mobility with safety at its core.

Connecting the Future of Mobility Through an App

Seamlessly integrating autonomous vehicles into urban infrastructure requires a sophisticated fleet management platform. By combining our taxi-driven operational expertise with a platform purpose-built for safe and efficient autonomous operations, we are redefining mobility services. Through tight integration of matching logic and the in-app ride-hailing experience, we continuously evolve our product through rapid iteration.

ABOUT

About
newmo Autonomy

Newmo Autonomy was established as a dedicated autonomous driving division. What we once envisioned as “a challenge we must one day take on” has now become a reality in motion. We are entering a full-scale phase of development.

By integrating onboard systems and hardware, designing real-world operations, and ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations, we are building a solid foundation for Level 4 autonomous taxi services. Autonomous driving is no longer a distant vision — it is a service we are actively realizing alongside AI.

OUR STORY

Driving Beyond

Across Japan's regions, the means of transportation are quietly disappearing. A shortage of bus and taxi operators, an aging population — the freedom to "go wherever you want," once taken for granted, is slowly fading. Solving the mobility problem through autonomous driving and making regions more colorful — that is our goal. Being able to go where you want to go. That is not simply about getting around. It means being able to visit the people you want to see. Encountering something new somewhere you've never been. Having more freedom in choosing where to live. We believe that freedom of movement expands human connections and experiences, and broadens the choices available to each individual's future. To deliver this freedom, we are engaged in the research and development of autonomous driving technology. Intelligence that understands meaning, and intelligence that acts correctly in the physical world. Autonomous driving requires the integration of these two distinct forms of intelligence. Even if a vehicle can read the meaning of a traffic sign, that alone won't stop the car. Translating understanding into action — this problem, known as "grounding," is a fundamental question that goes beyond autonomous driving and touches on the nature of intelligence itself. We take on this challenge through autonomous driving. This challenge is not one we can complete alone. We look to advance this field together with partners who face the same questions, combining our knowledge as we go.

How Autonomy is Built

SENSING

Correctly understanding the environment is the first step toward autonomy

We are developing a perception system that integrates multiple sensors — LiDAR, cameras, radar, and more — to accurately capture the surrounding environment. We are building a recognition foundation capable of handling the complexity unique to urban environments and diverse situations such as vehicle sides and blind spots. We pursue robust sensing technology designed for real-world operations.

PLANNING

Decision-making that balances safety and comfort

Based on acquired environmental data, we generate optimal routes and behaviors in real time. By designing prediction, avoidance, and control in an integrated manner, we develop decision-making algorithms built for commercial operations. We achieve the balance between safety and ride comfort through software.

VEHICLE

Software is only complete when integrated with the vehicle

An autonomous driving system is only complete once integrated with a vehicle. We translate system decisions into vehicle control — steering and acceleration/deceleration — and integrate redundancy and safety design into the actual vehicle. We are advancing optimal integration with hardware in preparation for commercial deployment.

We are hiring

The newmo Autonomous Driving Development Division is working toward the commercialization of Level 4 autonomous driving taxis. We are looking for people to join us in the iterative process of driving vehicles, collecting data, improving algorithms, and driving again.

Hailing an autonomous taxi from a mobile app, just like hailing a regular taxi today. Would you like to build that experience with your own hands? Dive into a process without definitive answers, where your own judgment directly impacts how the car moves. We welcome applications from anyone who finds that kind of work exciting.
